TWIN CITIES BEGINS LACTATION CONSULTING CLASSES
(Templeton, CA)—Twin Cities Community Hospital is now offering Lactation Consulting classes. Beginning July 26, obstetrical physicians may schedule their patients for Outpatient Lactation Consultation. For mothers and their newborns who are experiencing difficulty breastfeeding, the service is provided on Mondays and Wednesdays and consists for approximately 1 hour of education. Twin’s lactation counselors will provide one-on-one education and emotional support. Patients will require an obstetrical provider’s order.
“Breastfeeding offers many benefits to babies and mothers. Problems often don’t arise until after the mother and infant have gone home from the hospital. Having an Outpatient lactation clinic will give nursing mothers the opportunity to see a Lactation Consultant, follow –up on what was learned in the hospital and address problems they are having now at home. We are very excited to be able to provide this service for our patients and community,” said Shareen Taylor, Director of Obstetrical Services.
Mothers who have access to help after they go home are more successful at breastfeeding and are likely to breastfeed longer. Some of the problems the lactation consultants will help with are sore nipples, low milk supply, slow weight gain and difficulty with positioning and latch. Our Board certified lactation consultants working the clinic will be Margaret Veyna, RN, IBCLC, she has worked in mother/baby area of healthcare for the last 20 years and Marna Moore-Barr, RN, IBLCLC, has been a nurse working with families for the last 20 years both seeing patients in the hospital and in outpatient clinic settings. To schedule a consultation, patients and providers will call Twin’s Centralized Scheduling Department at 434-4399.
